Sentiment reportedly hacked for at least $500k

The DeFi lending platform Sentiment has likely been hacked, according to an announcement from the project on Twitter on April 4.

The project’s team wrote that it has been “made aware of a potential issue concerning the Sentiment protocol” and is investigating the situation.

Though Sentiment has not provided an explanation, various members of the community have suggested that the project has been hacked based on blockchain records.

Developer Pascal Marco Caversaccio suggested that the incident is likely the result of a reentrancy attack. This line of attack means that an external contract repeatedly called a vulnerable Sentiment contract before the latter contract’s status could be updated.

Developer Imaddin Amsif, meanwhile, suggested that the attacker specifically called a self-destruct function within a Sentiment smart contract.

Elsewhere, Spreek suggested that the attacker stole between $500,000 and $1 million via Arbitrum ― the blockchain on which Sentiment’s DeFi platform operates.

This piece will be updated as more information becomes available.
