Leading French Art Museum to Incorporate an NFTs

Leading French art museum, The Centre Pompidou, is set to display top NFT artwork starting this spring. The announcement was made on February 10 by the museum through its official Twitter account. The goal is to cater to the rapidly growing Web3 art space where blockchain intersects with art in the form of non-fungible tokens.

For a start, the museum will display art from over 16 digital artists around the world. Some popular names include CryptoPunks and Autoglyph. The former has offered to donate CryptoPunk #110, and the latter, Autoglyph #25; both will be available to be enjoyed by fans of Web3 artwork.

According to Xavier Rey, the director of the French National Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou is “pursuing its interest in digital art in connection with the blockchain.”

He goes on to add that “Web 3 is an innovative territory that artists have now seized upon to create original and daring work, and this collection reaffirms our support for artists in their conquest of new means of expression, which is the foundation of modern art.”

The exhibition marks the first time NFTs will be on display at the Centre Pompidou. The museum is home to some masterpieces by globally renown artists such as Vassily Kandinsky, Henri Matisse, and Frida Kahlo.

Larva Labs, the platform behind Autoglyph #25, is happy to see the museum offer to display one of its master NFT artworks.

Centre Pompidou Benefits From Yuga’s Legacy Project

According to Yuga Labs, the donation is part of its legacy project, which aims to give Punks for free to leading art institutions around the world that wish to display Web3 artwork. So far, the company has already donated CryptoPunk #305 to the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami.

Commenting on the latest donation, Greg Solano, Yuga Labs co-founder, notes that “Seeing CryptoPunk #110 displayed in the Centre Pompidou, arguably the world’s most prestigious contemporary art museum, is a great moment for the Web3 and NFT ecosystem, and we’re honored to help drive this cultural conversation.”

It just goes to show how fast the Web3 art space is developing, and now it’s gaining the kind of attention it deserves.
