On his social media platform X, Musk retweeted a viral video of Poilievre explaining how the best way to combat inflation is by cutting government spending—an argument that aligns with Musk’s role as the co-head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Elon Musk, who was briefly a Canadian citizen, called Poilievre’s views “perfectly expressed.”
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre is running for prime minister after Justin Trudeau announced on Monday that he plans to resign, following polls showing that Canadian voters are particularly concerned about the cost of living. Trudeau’s departure was also highlighted on prediction market platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi, where over 90% of odds suggested that Trudeau would step down before April.
Meanwhile, Poilievre has been a staunch supporter of Bitcoin for many years. He has appeared on several cryptocurrency podcasts and shared his vision of making Canada the “global blockchain capital.” In 2022, the Conservative politician stated, “Canadians should have the freedom to use other currencies, such as Bitcoin,” because the government is “destroying” the Canadian dollar. At the time, Prime Minister Trudeau criticized his remarks, calling them reckless.
On the Polymarket prediction platform, Poilievre’s chances of winning the prime ministership are estimated to be as high as 89%, well ahead of second-placed Chrystia Freeland, who has 7%.
If Musk-approved Poilievre wins the Canadian election, he could become the second conservative, pro-Bitcoin leader to lead a country, following in the footsteps of Donald Trump.
