There are several common types of telephone scams to look out for:
• You have won a cruise.
• Grandchild in jail (scammer looks for money for bail).
• You are being investigated by the police.
• Scams imitating actual companies (i.e., National Grid never received your payment).
• Your Social Security number has been compromised.
• Insurance/health care scams.
• Cryptocurrency scams (Bitcoin).
If you are contacted by somebody that you do not know:
• Do not give out personal information.
• Do not give out banking information.
• Do not wire money.
• Do not purchase gift cards.
• Do not click on suspicious links.
• Beware of information that you are downloading.
